The 1923 Yankees
This was the first of what would be many World Series Championships for the Yankees. It was also the opening year for Yankee Stadium. Babe Ruth hit the first home run in the first game at The Stadium as the Yanks went on to beat the Boston Red Sox. After the game, Fred Lieb, a reporter for a NY newspaper was allegedly the first person to the call The Stadium "The house that Ruth built". This was their first stadium win in a year that would see them defeat the New York Giants 4 games to 2 in the Fall Classic for their first World Series Championship.
The Yanks finished with a 98-54 record, well ahead of the second place Tigers. The Red Sox finished in last place with 37 less wins than the Yanks. Babe Ruth was named the MVP of the American League.
